Parking Structure Lighting: Hubbard Woods

Winnetka, IL

Parking Structure Lighting

The existing parking structure lighting in the Village of Winnetka’s Hubbard Woods was in need of an upgrade. Located in the heart of Winnetka’s Business District, the parking structure sees a steady stream of pedestrian traffic at all times. The garage was lit using a variety of high pressure sodium (HPS) and metal halide (MH) lighting that resulted in uneven light distribution in certain areas of the structure, causing some safety concerns. The HPS and MH lighting was replaced with high efficiency LED lighting to ensure proper light dispersion throughout the garage. LED fixtures also have a proven life of three to five times longer than conventional lighting, which reduced both the amount of maintenance required and the associated maintenance costs.

The Village received funding for this project through the IMEA Energy Efficiency Program, which requires that quantifiable energy savings are present and documented after the project is completed. To meet the grant requirements, Clark Dietz combined the latest LED lighting technology with dimming controls, resulting in energy savings of over 87 percent.
