Clark Dietz is proud to congratulate Ron Pretty, PE, PTOE, on earning his Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification, administered by the Transportation Professional Certification Board (TPCB). This nationally recognized credential reflects Ron’s advanced knowledge and dedication to the specialized field of traffic engineering—and we’re excited to celebrate his achievement!
Based in our Farmington Hills, MI office, Ron is a Project Manager and Traffic Engineer who brings a strong focus on traffic operations and safety. His work includes signal timing studies, mobility and work zone safety analysis, crash analysis, traffic impact studies, and road safety audits. Ron also leads the charge on traffic data collection efforts, utilizing tools like Miovision, HCS 2023, and Highway Safety Software to provide accurate and actionable insights for our clients.
“For me, earning the PTOE certification really solidifies my knowledge base,” Ron says. “I like that when people see those letters, they know I’m a traffic engineer. It reinforces my role and my passion for specializing in traffic engineering.”
The PTOE certification is one of the most respected credentials in the traffic operations field. While the certification itself is administered by the TPCB, the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) provides valuable resources and training to support candidates throughout the process. Candidates must be licensed professional engineers who demonstrate in-depth understanding of traffic operations, safety principles, signal systems, capacity analysis, and MUTCD standards through a rigorous exam. It affirms a commitment to professional growth and the advancement of quality in traffic engineering practices.
Clark Dietz proudly sponsors ITE and employs several active ITE members across our offices. We value ITE’s leadership in the transportation profession and the role it plays in supporting the continued development of our staff.
Ron’s PTOE certification further enhances our firm’s capabilities in several key service areas, including:
- Signal Operations and Analysis
- Traffic Operations Studies
- Safety Analysis and Crash Data Evaluation
- Geometric Design and Capacity Modeling
- MUTCD and MDOT Standards Compliance
These services are essential to our work with municipalities, DOTs, and regional planning organizations, providing practical, data-informed strategies for improving roadway safety and efficiency.
Ron has also completed the Interactive Highway Safety Design Model (IHSDM) course and has extensive experience with MDOT’s Transportation Data Management System (TDMS). His thorough understanding of these systems and standards ensures that our clients receive solutions tailored to real-world needs.
At Clark Dietz, we’re proud of the talented individuals who make up our Traffic and Safety Team—a group that brings technical knowledge, thoughtful planning, and a passion for safer roads to every project. Ron’s PTOE certification is a milestone that reflects both personal dedication and our shared mission of engineering quality of life.
Ron joins other engineers in holding this certification, including engineering leaders, Sean Widener, PE, PTOE, and Leigh Burgess, PE, PTOE.
Congratulations, Ron!
