IL 62 Corridor Study: IL 25 to IL 68 (Kane and Cook Cos., Illinois)

CLIENT: Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT)

Clark Dietz is providing Phase I preliminary engineering and environmental services as part of a teaming arrangement for approximately five miles of IL 62, also known as Algonquin Road, between IL 25 and IL 68 in Cook and Kane Counties. The study evaluates corridor improvements and develops a preferred alternative to enhance safety, traffic operations, and mobility.

Engineering services include traffic signal modernization, traffic capacity analysis, geometric design, and intersection design studies. The team also evaluates existing and proposed drainage conditions and develops maintenance of traffic strategies to support future construction.

With existing and planned forest preserves adjacent to the corridor, environmental considerations are central to the study. Early and ongoing coordination with the Forest Preserve District of Kane County and the Forest Preserves of Cook County helps identify opportunities to avoid or minimize impacts to sensitive properties and natural resources.

Public involvement follows IDOT’s Context Sensitive Solutions policy and includes community advisory group meetings and public information meetings. These activities bring community perspectives into the evaluation of alternatives and development of corridor improvements.

The environmental study complies with the National Environmental Policy Act and includes preparation of an Environmental Assessment and Combined Design Report. Together, the engineering, environmental, and public involvement efforts establish a foundation for improvements that address transportation needs while considering the corridor’s surrounding communities and natural resources.
