The Clark Dietz Team is Committed to Community

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ … I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers — so many caring people in this world.”

Fred Rogers, 1999

Clark Dietz is committed to the communities it serves, so much so that it has made Community one of its hallmark values:

We take great pride that our work will improve the communities in which we live work and play.

In addition to helping our community through our work, our employees make personal contributions to make the world a better place through volunteerism. We recently sent out a survey to our staff to learn more about their volunteer work and were delighted to discover what moved our team of helpers to lend a hand. Some insights:

  • Volunteer as Subject Matter Expert – Unsurprisingly, many of the volunteer projects allowed Clark Dietz staff to put their specialized planning, surveying, engineering, and archaeology knowledge to work by serving on development committees, planning commissions, preservation societies and conservancies. Others paid it forward by working to nurture the next generation of engineers.

85 percent of our volunteers actively help nurture the next generation of engineers.

  • Life Beyond Engineering – Perhaps looking for a break from day-to-day responsibilities, many of our helpers lent a hand for more general volunteer opportunities. Volunteer efforts aided charities as diverse as scouting, religious organizations, youth sports, homeless outreach, refugee advocacy and sponsorship, hunger taskforces, and even a COVID-19 community vaccination clinic.

Staff volunteer at 100 different organizations across the midwest.

  • It’s About Time – Our staff was generous with their time and expertise, averaging about 10 hours per month of donated time, but many donating much more – several averaging 20+ hours monthly! While we are proud to do our part by providing eight hours of paid volunteer work annually, we are moved that Clark Dietz employees devote so much time to public service above and beyond that starting point.

Per month, over 50 percent of those surveyed volunteer 10 or more hours.

We are gratified by our staff’s altruism and their embodiment of an ideal that serves as one of Clark Dietz’s guiding principles. It is an incredible privilege to know that among us are so many helpers, making the world a better place both on and off the clock. In the coming weeks we’ll be showcasing some of our volunteers’ charities and what they do to make a difference. In the meantime, we invite you to check out how, together and as a company, we give back to the communities we serve.

And, if you’re the sort of person who loves to improve the world through work and volunteerism, we’d love to hear from you! Please take a look at our CAREERS page to explore how you can join the Clark Dietz team of dedicated professionals who help their communities one project (and one volunteer hour!) at a time.
