US-131 over Conrail & I-296 over I-96 Bridges (Grand Rapids, Michigan)
CLIENT: Michigan Department of Transportation-Central
Preserving busy freeway bridges requires attention to both the structures carrying traffic and the drivers who depend on them. Clark Dietz provided engineering services for bridge rehabilitation in Grand Rapids, including the northbound and southbound US-131 bridges over Conrail and Plaster Creek.
The rehabilitation addressed key structural components through pin and hanger replacements, structural steel repairs, and partial steel cleaning and coating to help protect against corrosion. Work also included bridge deck joint replacements, temporary supports during repairs, and load ratings to evaluate the bridges’ load-carrying capacity.
Clark Dietz provided roadway and bridge design, bridge load rating, maintenance of traffic, work zone safety and mobility, freeway signing, and pavement marking services. Together, these services supported structural preservation while addressing traffic needs throughout construction.
