INDIANAPOLIS, IN – It is with heavy hearts the Clark Dietz family announces the loss of Jim Loew, PE on Friday, April 14, 2023.

Jim dedicated over 30 years of hard work to our organization, his clients, and his colleagues. His unwavering commitment to our profession and his community have left an indelible mark, and his absence will be deeply felt by all of us. Jim has contributed immensely to our organization’s success and his legacy will continue to inspire us.

Jim received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Purdue University and began his career with the Illinois Department of Transportation. In 1990 he joined Clyde E. Williams & Associates as a Transportation Engineer and continued through two acquisitions, the first by Farrar Garvey & Associates in 1995 and ultimately by Clark Dietz in 2007. Jim continued to serve as a Senior Project Manager on significant transportation projects for our Indiana market, became a shareholder in the firm and served on our Board of Directors. Jim was known for his ability to put his clients’ best interests first while managing complex infrastructure improvements.

Jim was a member of Chi Epsilon, Honorary Civil Engineering Fraternity, a Past-President of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, and former Secretary for the Indiana Department of Transportation/American Council of Engineering Companies of Indiana Liaison Committee.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was known for his warmth, kindness, and genuine care for others. Jim was an active parishioner and volunteer at St. Simon Church, as well as Cathedral High School’s football program.

Jim was most recently awarded our firm’s highest honor, the Clark Dietz President’s Award, demonstrating leadership, creativity, high performance, and the embodiment of our company values. One nomination included, “Jim truly makes anyone—whether it be a client, coworker, or complete stranger, feel welcome and heard.  He is trustworthy, reliable, and always looks to serve others.”

Jim went above and beyond to support his colleagues, providing a listening ear, offering guidance, and lending a helping hand whenever needed. Clark Dietz staff members have conveyed their belief that they owe much of their career success to Jim’s invaluable mentorship. His positivity, generosity, and unwavering spirit has touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed.

During this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Sally, and two daughters Emily and Allison. As we come to terms with this immense loss, we remember and honor Jim’s memory by continuing to uphold the values he exemplified.
