Harrison Street Detention Improvement

Elmhurst, IL

Clark Dietz provided Phase II engineering services for design of the Harrison Street Detention Basin and associated stormwater work. This area, south of Butterfield Road and east of York Street, had flooded during various rainfalls, with some homes experiencing flooding in addition to street and area flooding.

Additionally, our firm:

  • provided topographic survey, geotechnical survey, utility coordination, hydraulic analysis and design of an intersection.
  • facilitated meetings with the City.
  • assisted in meetings with impacted agencies, businesses, and public open houses with residents.
  • prepared 3D renderings/exhibits.
  • prepared preliminary cost estimates.
  • prepared construction bid documents.
  • provided permitting and bidding assistance.

The final design included the creation of five additional acre feet of detention of City owned property via retaining walls, installation of 100 LF of storm sewer and seven storm sewer structures, modifications to an existing pump station, hot-mix asphalt pavement reconstruction, new combination curb and gutter, new sidewalk ramps compliant with ADA standards, driveway pavement, permanent fencing, and landscaping.

Clark Dietz also provided construction engineering services for the inspection of the detention basin and associated stormwater work. Our work included submittal reviews, utility coordination, construction inspection and documentation, generating pay estimates and change orders, material QA testing, meetings with the City, and on site liaison to residents on behalf of the City.
