Clark Dietz enters the 2021 Engineering Drone Video of the Year Contest

We’re thrilled to have entered two videos in the Engineering Drone Video Contest of the Year 2021, conducted by Civil + Structural Engineer Magazine. It gives us a chance to creatively present our projects and demonstrate the excellent work of our drone pilots, Antonio Acevedo, PE, and David Wichman, PE.

Voting begins on May 3, 2021, and we’d love to receive your vote! One vote per video/per day is allowed. Voting will end on May 12, 2021.

Thank you in advance for your support! And thank you to our drone pilots for contributing their time and effort to this fun contest.

Use the links below to view each video and cast your vote:

Prescribed Burn at Spring Creek Tributary

Prescribed Burn at Spring Creek Tributary

Drone Pilot: Antonio Acevedo, PE

Prescribed burns are conducted to restore and manage natural areas. They are carefully planned and implemented for two reasons: to prevent an uncontrolled fire that can be extremely damaging, and to enhance wildlife habitat. This prescribed burn of the Spring Lake Forest Preserve will allow environmental specialists to perform required surveys by clearing out overgrowth and allowing them a better look at habitat conditions. The federally endangered Hines Emerald Dragonfly has been identified near IL 62 in the marshes near the Spring Creek Tributary, so this burn will help those specialists determine if suitable breeding and foraging habitat is present. If the habitat is deemed suitable, future management plans will be developed to support the dragonfly communities. This plan will help to restore their populations with the eventual goal of removing the dragonfly from the endangered species list.

Evansville East Wastewater Treatment Plant: Capacity Expansion Project

Drone Pilot: David Wichman, PE

The City of Evansville owns and operates its East Wastewater Treatment Plant, which treats a fraction of the City’s wastewater and combined storm sewers by providing screening and grit removal, primary treatment, secondary treatment using activated sludge, and disinfection. The City signed a Consent Decree with IDEM, USEPA, and the US Department of Justice to comply with the requirements of the Clean Water Act by reducing sewage overflows and implementing upgrades to the plant. For the East WWTP that meant providing full secondary treatment for flows up to 40 MGD. The primary objectives of this project were to upgrade the plant to meet the requirements of the Consent Decree as well as ancillary improvements that have been identified.
