This week, Clark Dietz was honored at the ACEC Illinois Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) as the Lost Bridge Force Main Replacement project received a Special Achievement Award.

This recognition celebrates not only engineering excellence but also the collaboration, innovation, and commitment to community that made this project possible.

The Lost Bridge Force Main was designed to restore redundancy and protect water quality for more than 80,000 residents in Decatur, Illinois. By installing a new 14-inch force main beneath Lake Decatur using horizontal directional drilling, the project strengthened the City’s wastewater infrastructure while minimizing disruption to neighborhoods, parks, and roadway access.

We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Sanitary District of Decatur and the City of Decatur on this critical infrastructure investment. Protecting Lake Decatur, the community’s primary drinking-water source, required thoughtful engineering, detailed coordination, and a shared commitment to long-term resiliency. We also extend our appreciation to TWM, whose survey expertise supported this project.

Projects like this demonstrate how complex infrastructure improvements can be delivered responsibly in highly visible and environmentally sensitive settings. We are proud of our team and thankful to ACEC Illinois for recognizing the creativity, partnership, and influence behind this effort.
