Multimodal Corridor Enhancement (MCORE)
The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District, with the support of the City of Champaign, City of Urbana, and the University of Illinois, applied for and received a $15.7 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant for construction of the Multimodal Corridor Enhancement (MCORE) project within the University District.
The MCORE project consists of five individual projects:
- Project 1 – Green Street (Wright Street to Busey Avenue) 2016-2017
- Project 2 – Green Street (Neil Street to Fourth Street) 2016-2017
- Project 3 – White Street (Second Street to Wright Street) 2016-2017
- Project 4 – Armory Avenue (Fourth Street to Wright Street) and Wright Street (White Street to Armory Avenue) 2018-2019
- Project 5 – Green Street (Busey Avenue to Race Street) 2018-2019
Each street will undergo either full reconstruction or major rehabilitation to rebuild the streets into multimodal complete street corridors to accommodate all modes of travel (bus, pedestrian, bike, and vehicle). In addition to the pavement improvements, other benefits of the project are improved bus capacity and frequency on these key bus routes, improved sidewalks, new street lighting, and addition of on-street bicycle lanes.
The Clark Dietz team is providing Phase I Preliminary Engineering, including a Project Development Report, for all projects. Public involvement activities includes stakeholder meetings, City Council presentations, public hearings, project website development, and social media interactions throughout the duration of the projects. Phase II Final Engineering includes plans, specifications, and estimates, prepared incrementally in two separate construction contracts. The scope of services also includes Phase III Construction Observation for all projects.
“…The (Clark Dietz) Team accomplished a monumental task in completing the preliminary and final design phases in a very short period of time for a federally funded project. During the process there were many challenges presented and the (Clark Dietz) Team, in conjunction with staff and agency representatives, met each one…”
