The Macatawa Area Coordinating Council (MACC), a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Holland and Zeeland, Michigan, is teaming up with engineering firm Clark Dietz for a transformative road safety initiative. Their goal is to secure funding through the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program, which has earmarked $5 billion over five years to prevent roadway fatalities. This initiative aligns with MACC’s mission to create safer streets for all.

To achieve their vision, MACC is developing a Safety Action Plan (SAP) with three key objectives:

  1. Reducing Fatalities and Injuries: MACC will identify high-risk areas and implement evidence-based strategies to significantly reduce traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries.
  2. Addressing Safety Inequities: The SAP will prioritize equitable safety improvements, ensuring all residents have access to secure transportation options.
  3. Holistic Strategy Development: The plan will include infrastructure enhancements, public awareness campaigns, and smart technology integration for a comprehensive risk mitigation approach.

Clark Dietz, with over 60 years of experience in infrastructure solutions, is assisting MACC in data analysis and formulation for the SS4A grant application.

This partnership exemplifies a commitment to innovation, safety, and community well-being. Together, they aim to turn their vision of a safer road network into a reality, shaping a more secure future for Holland and Zeeland.

As the project unfolds, this collaboration is poised to make a lasting impact on road safety and the communities they serve.
