First Street Bridge Deck Overlay Design
CLIENT: City of Elmhurst, IL
The First Street Bridge over Robert Palmer Drive in downtown Elmhurst is routinely inspected by Clark Dietz every two years. During these inspections, our team identified progressive deterioration of the bridge deck, prompting a detailed evaluation of the structure’s condition.
Working closely with the City of Elmhurst, Clark Dietz evaluated rehabilitation and replacement alternatives by assessing costs, anticipated service life, and long-term value. Following the preparation of a comprehensive Bridge Condition Report, the City determined that rehabilitating the existing bridge deck would provide the most cost-effective solution while extending the bridge’s service life.
Clark Dietz then prepared the design plans and bidding documents for the rehabilitation, which included bridge deck patching, sidewalk repairs, joint replacement, installation of pedestrian tread plates, and a latex-modified concrete overlay. Construction management services were provided under a separate contract to support the successful delivery of the project.
Services were completed in 2022.
