Client: City of Champaign

To keep city streets in good condition and ensure accessibility for all residents, two firms are selected each year—one for the Annual Concrete Street Maintenance Contract and one for the Annual Infrastructure Maintenance Contract. Each firm is responsible for providing professional services that include preparing construction plans and specifications, assisting with bidding, and performing construction observation. These selections cover three-year cycles, with construction targeted to begin in May and design contracts typically awarded the previous fall.

Clark Dietz’s Role in Multi-Year Street Improvements

Clark Dietz played a key role in the Annual Concrete Street Improvements Project, providing both design and construction inspection services. Their involvement began with the third phase of the 2020–2022 contract cycle, which focused on replacing deteriorated concrete pavement, repairing sidewalks, and upgrading curb ramps to meet ADA standards. This work included street maintenance on Springer Drive and Daniel Street and was funded using Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) dollars.

Building on that success, Clark Dietz was again selected to support the city during the 2023, 2024, and 2025 construction seasons. Each year, a new contract is issued, with construction starting in May and design services beginning in July of the previous year. The projects include full-depth concrete street replacements, sidewalk improvements, and ADA-compliant upgrades.

2024 Project Highlights

  • Ayrshire Drive: Approximately 710 feet of street replacement from Prospect Avenue east to just west of the Peach Street intersection.

  • Fire Station 1: Replacement of the southwest parking lot and entrance drive.

  • Park Terrace Lane: About 400 feet of pavement replacement from Robert Drive to just west of the Augusta Drive intersection.

  • Southford Trace and Brittany Trail: 600 feet total—400 feet along Southford Trace from the crosswalk to Brittany Trail, and 200 feet west along Brittany Trail.

Looking Ahead to 2025

The city continues to prioritize its infrastructure through the Annual Concrete Street Improvements Project, with Clark Dietz selected once again to provide design, bidding, and construction oversight services for the 2025 season. This work will ensure local roads remain safe, functional, and accessible for years to come.
