Andrea Bretl, PE, ENV SP

Civil/Environmental Team Leader, Central Illinois

EXPERTISE: Wastewater

Ms. Bretl joined Clark Dietz in 2006, after 6 years of working as a consulting engineering in California. After joining Clark Dietz as a project engineer for industrial and municipal treatment facility planning and design, she has since become the project manager for Clark Dietz’s larger plant design and construction projects and the Central Illinois team leader for the civil environmental group. Andrea says of her approach to municipal projects: “We are responsible for the public’s money and the public’s health; therefore, we must plan projects that are right fit for each community’s individual concerns. Sometimes, that will mean implementing an innovative system that will produce better water quality with less energy or chemicals used and sometimes that will mean designing a simple system with trusty well-known equipment.”

She has extensive experience with performing process design calculations, hydraulic and operational evaluations of existing plants, and facilities master planning. Her projects have ranged from design of nutrient removal systems at activated sludge plants to design and construction phase services of the first biological aerated filter system in the state of Indiana.

Andrea holds a BS in Environmental Engineering, an MS in Environmental and Water Quality Engineering, and is certified by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure. She has given numerous presentations on various treatment technologies at conferences such as WATERCON, IWEA, and ISAWWA throughout Illinois and Indiana.

When not at work Andrea prefers to be outside – walking with the dog, gardening with her husband, in rain boots looking at the local creeks with her daughter, mushroom hunting and running with her sons, or camping with the whole family.
