Description
Due to population growth and the need to treat additional wet weather flows, the City of Evansville needed to expand the Westside WWTP from a design flow of 20.6 MGD to a design flow of 30.6 MGD. Clark Dietz was selected to design the 10 MGD expansion. Due to the limited space at the plant and the need to treat wet weather flows, Clark Dietz engineers chose a biological aerated filter as the most cost effective option. The biological aerated filter provides:
- Biological reduction of carbonaceous BOD and ammonia
- Effluent filtration
- Elimination of secondary clarifiers and return activated sludge pumping and piping
- The overall project also included the following wastewater treatment plant improvements:
- Influent and effluent pumps upgrade
- New bar screens
- New grit facilities
- Chlorinated spray system for aeration tanks
- New biofiltration lift station
