Belmont North Relief Interceptor receives award

The project was completed in 2010 and included several thousand feet of 72-inch relief sewer and associated poured-in-place reinforced concrete junction structures. The majority of the sewer was installed by jacking reinforced concrete pipe behind a tunnel machine as it advanced through the ground. Tunneling was chosen during design as the best installation method because of sewer depths up to 30 feet, a groundwater table above the sewer, and an alignment of the sewer down one of the City's main thoroughfares, which was kept open to traffic during the entire project. John Dufek attended the award banquet on behalf of the City of Indianapolis and Clark Dietz.
